The first edition of this work. Two volumes study of women's contribution to English literature from the early seventeenth century the early nineteenth by B. G. MacCarthy. Studies included are of Aphra Behn and satire, Restoration genres compared, the sentimentalised novella, novels of sentiment and sensibility, the didactic novel, Jane Austen, &c. A fascinating read.

Condition

In the original publisher's half cloth bindings over paper covered boards. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, spine and extremities of the boards lightly bumped. Library stamp to the title page of 'The Later Women Novelists'. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean.
