This is a comprehensive history of one of London’s most famous theatres. Daly’s Theatre, which stood in Leicester Square, opened in 1893 under the management of George Edwardes and quickly became synonymous with the glitter and spectacle of Edwardian musical comedy.
Illustrated with nine double-sided monochrome photographic plates, chiefly portraits of performers in their celebrated roles. Collated, complete.
D. Forbes-Winslow (1914–1974) was a British physician and writer with a deep passion for the stage, publishing several works on London theatre history.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with pictorial paper boards. Externally, very smart. Slight fading to extremities and spine. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two spots to endpapers with slight cockling to the gutter of free endpapers. Dust wrapper, generally smart. Tape repairs to inner extremities. Slight age toning to extremities with one or two spots. The odd chip, crease, and closed tear to extremities, heavier to spine with slight loss to head and tail. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages slight cockled. Hinges slightly strained in places, but firm. Pages bright and clean.
