Denys James Watkins-Pitchford was a celebrated British naturalist, illustrator, and children's author who published his written works under the pseudonym 'BB'. He received the 1942 Carnegie Medal for British Children's Books. The Idle Countryman is an illustrated record of a year spent in the heart of the countryside which reflects on the flora and fauna encountered by the author and the passing of the seasons.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart with just slight discolouration of the cloth at the head and tail of the spine and bumping to the same and the extremities. Wrapper is somewhat age toned with edgewear, including small closed tears and a few chips. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a trifle age toned however generally bright and clean. A near fine copy in a very good dust wrapper given the age of the work and its being printed on War Economy paper.
