An uncommon 2 volume set of heavily illustrated works, imagining the architectural and technological near-future of London, including a first edition of 'Greater London Plan 1944'.

Includes an unlisted 'Reconstruction of an area in Shoreditch and Bethnal Green' between pp.102-103.

Volume 1 features a monochrome frontispiece, and 58 further monochrome plates, in addition to 12 in colour, including 4 folding plates.
Volume 1 also features endpapers decorated with a colour map of London.
Collated, complete.

Volume 2, a first edition, contains 89 photographs and 33 drawings, which are displayed across 28 double sided plates, featuring both monochrome and colour illustrations, and vignette illustrations.
Collated, complete.

There are small areas of tape mending to all folding maps found within volume 2, totaling 9 maps. There is a single unmended closed tear to a folding map facing p.39.

Comes with a colourful 'master plan' map of London printed across two folding maps, and kept in pocket to end volume 1, in lovely condition.

Condition

Bound in original cream cloth. Externally, very smart. The odd mark to boards. Mark to vol2 rear board. Vol1 colour illustrated endpapers. Slight spotting to boards. Vol2 head and tail broken. The odd mark to endpapers. Ink inscriptions to front free endpapers. Vol2 front hinge starting. Internally, generally firmly bound. Both books have a significant forward lean. Pages generally bright and clean, with occasional handling mark. Tape mending and slight corresponding age toning to folding maps.
