Containing 'The Discovery of America', 'English Enterprise in the Atlantic', 'The Propagandists of the Tudor Period', 'The Eastern Seas', 'The National Interest in Oceanic Enterprise', 'The Opening of the Pacific' and 'The Oceanic Factor in the Shaping of Modern England'.

Written by James Williamson, a British expert on maritime history who wrote prolifically on the subject. He served as vice-president of the Hakluyt Society, as well as the Historical Association.

With the ownership inscription of Geoffrey Fildes, Hill House, Woodstock, Oxon. Fildes was the son of painter Luke Fildes and the brother of microbiologist of Paul Fildes.
