A charming exploration of the early days of cinema, an interesting history which looks at the important films made from the earliest days of silent films to the late 1930s. This work includes information on the monumental advent of sound and colour films.
Films discussed include 'The Private Life of Henry VIII', 'David Copperfield', 'The Four Feathers', and more, as well as plays such as 'Pygmalion'.
Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, two colour plates, and a total of two-hundred and fifty cigarette cards, depicting stills from films, fifty-eight of which are in the colour, and one-hundred and ninety-two in monochrome.
With the Oscar emblem in gilt to the front board.

Collated, bound without plates IV and V, to face pages 68 and 106. All cigarette cards are present.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine is faded. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spine, Oscar emblem is a little rubbed. Dampstain to the head of the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots. Small closed tear to the tail of a few pages. Ink to page 7.
