The first edition of this work.
A delightful volume in which five rhyming verses are paired with jigsaw puzzles that are incorporated into the boards of the book. The puzzles and verses are titled: no dogs allowed, the good ship cheese straw, Piggy and the pantry, the monkey's puzzle and the mousie mountaineers.
Collated; one piece missing from 'monkey's puzzle', with three teeth missing to 'dogs', and one tooth missing to 'cheese-straw'. With the colour paper of three teeth also lacking.
Without the protective cellophane covering to each puzzle.
Undated; dated 1938 via the British library.
With the stamp of Michael and Megan Dawson, a husband and wife who established a successful business dealing in and restoring pop-up books, to the head of the front pastedown.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth backed pictorial paper covered boards. Externally, smart. Bumping to board perimeters, with handling marks to perimeters of rear board. Stamp to head of front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Handling marks throughout. One puzzle piece and four teeth lacking, with paper lacking to three tooth. Lacking cellophane jigsaw covers.
