First edition, first impression. A melodrama in three acts telling the story of the outbreak of the war between the fictional European countries of Ostnia and Westland. Written in prose and verse, it is considered the successor to The Ascent of F6. The play was produced in October 1938 at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. Written by Wystan Hugh Auden, a British-American poet and author, and Christopher William Bradshaw Isherwood, an English and American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, autobiographer, and diarist.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is worn with light chipping and sunning to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine as well as he panel edges with the odd small closed tear. The odd mark to the panels. A large closed tear to the spine with sympathetic repairs made with tape to the reverse of the wrapper Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Light spotting to the endpapers with the bookseller's label to the front pastedown.
