This volume is a very scarce first edition.

Alice Martineau compiled this eclectic collection of recipes from a wide network of domestic cooks, drawing on contributions from international friends and acquaintances to suit small households with varied tastes.

Dishes include "Camembert Canapés," "Russian Eggs au Gratin," "Sweet Corn Chowder," "Lobster Soufflé," "Sportsman's Pie," "Squabs en Chemise," "Hollywood Salad," "Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie," and even "Nasturtium Sandwiches", one of many recipes to make up a diverse and imaginative menu.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Slight discolouration to extremities and spine. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, more so to front joint resulting in slight fraying and loss to cloth. Bookplate from "Martin & Pamela Finch: Exlibris Gastronomique" to front free endpaper. Slight offsetting to rear endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, if slightly age toned with the odd spot, heavier to first and last few leaves.
