Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, Signed, With Dustwrapper

First edition. Scarce work. Signed and inscribed by the author to the front pastedown in presentation to an old friend, W. W. Grantham K.C., dated 1938. Illustrated with seven plates. Collated, lacking the frontispiece. A history of one of Canada's greatest men, who was the very first Naval Cadet for the country of Canada, and who served over fifty years in the Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Archibald Lucius Douglas. His greatest work was laying the foundation of the Japanese Navy alongside a mere handful of officers, and this important history is recorded in these pages. Written by his son, Archibald Campbell Campbell, a Canadian politician and physicist, and writer who entered politics following an army career.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound and has been laminated with sympathetic repairs made with tape and paper to the internal side. Light wear and chipping to the extremities, resulting in loss to the bottom of the front panel. The odd small mark to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with scattered spotting, predominantly to the first and last few pages. Light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the front pastedown and title page. Illustration page has been corrected with a new page pasted over the original.
