First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, forty-seven plates, seventeen maps, four diagrams in text, and a folding map to the rear. Collated complete. Retracing the Arctic expedition undertaken by Oxford University in 1935 and 1936, detailing the interactions between the crew members and and the effects of the changing environment upon them both individually and collectively. With descriptions of the arctic land, in winter and in summer as well as during the day and night. Includes two appendixes and an index. Written by Sir Alexander Richard Glen, a Scottish explorer of the Arctic, and wartime intelligence officer. Assisted by Colonel Noel Andrew Cotton Croft, an English explorer who participated in several Arctic expeditions and later became a member of the Special Operations Executive in the Second World War.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and a small split to the cloth at the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot to the fore-edge. Light age toning to the endpapers.
