First edition. Illustrated throughout. As part of a movement in the 1920s and 30s for preserving English regional recipes before they were lost for ever, this book, contains a number of the recipes printed from the author's own very large collection of cookery books. Others come from local manuscripts from the libraries of the families for whom they were written. Written by M. K. Samuelson, an English historian, preservationist, and cookery book writer. Illustrated by Vincent Hill, a British artist and illustrator.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with marks to the boards. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine as well as the joints, resulting in light fraying. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown with a contemporary ink inscription and picture pasted to the front endpaper. Bookseller's label to the rear pastedown.
