First edition. Illustrated with frontispiece, five plates, and a double-page map. Collated complete. A memoir of time spent voyaging across the world by Helmer Hanssen, a Norwegian sailor, pilot and polar explorer remembered as a participant in three of the polar expeditions led by Roald Amundsen. Hanssen was one of the first five explorers to reach the South Pole. With a forward by Vice-Admiral Edward Ratcliffe Garth Russell Evans, a Royal Navy officer and Antarctic explorer.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spine. A small split in the cloth to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the extremities. A contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown dated 1941.
