Forester's novel, set in WWI East Africa, follows a gin-swilling Canadian riverboat captain is persuaded by an English missionary to undertake a trip up a treacherous river to attack a German gun-boat.
With eight pages of advertisements to the rear.
The novel was adapted into a 1951 motion picture starring Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart.
With a former owner's inscription to the front pastedown, and a further gift inscription, dated 1938, to the front free endpaper.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Back strip age toned, with light handling marks to boards. Rubbing to back strip head and tail. Rear joint starting, with cloth fraying, and rear board a touch tender. Inscriptions to front pastedowns and front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
