First edition. Illustrated throughout. A humorous guide to British gardening, with extracts which were originally published in Punch magazine. Arranged into sections, or "bumps", on nature, garden rubbish, beyond the unpleasaunce, and the wind-on-the-heath brother. Written by Walter Carruthers Sellar and Robert Julian Yeatman, both British humourists who wrote for Punch, and are best known for their 1930 book '1066 and All That', a parody of historical works. Illustrated by Stephen Dowling, a British newspaper comic artist.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Minor age toning to the endpapers with a blind stamp to the front endpaper. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
