What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
Two volumes. First edition. Very scarce works. Illustrated throughout. Written by Thomas Burke, a British author who was employed as an office boy in the City of London. It was here that he accumulated his in-depth knowledge of London and particularly the East End upon which many of his novels, poems, short stories and miscellaneous writings were based. This set contains: Will Someone Lead Me to a Pub?, 1936. A simple tour of what Burke knew well – the old and new taverns of London. Being a note upon certain taverns, presenting their histories, sketches of the people you might find there, and entertaining anecdotes with themes of nostalgia. Dinner is Served!, 1937. A brief glance, written for the benefit of tourists and visitors, of the many ways and means of dining in London. With commentary on a variety of establishments from the most fashionable restaurants of great reputation to the various grill rooms and foreign dining in Soho.
