Inscribed by celebrated English playwright, director and actor, Noël Coward, known for his unique personal style and poise, as well as for his huge contributions to English theatre. With the inscription "Alan Sydney Smith, from Noël Coward" dated 1935.
Written by Australian novelist and politician, Helen de Guerry Simpson. This was one of Simpson's later novels and was adapted into a 1948 film starring Joan Greenwood and Stewart Granger.
'Saraband for Dead Lovers' is a historical novel set in Hanover in the 17th century. It surrounds the romance of Sophia Dorothea of Celle and Philip Christoph von Konigsmark, a relationship which is ultimately doomed, as Sophia was forced to marry Prince George of Hanover at the age of 16.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and a few marks. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Front hinge is strained, but holding firm. Front endpaper is a little strained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
