First edition. Signed and inscribed by the author in presentation to a Marjorie Armstrong. The inscription reads: "for Marjorie Armstrong, whose pictures have helped so much in the making of this book. Ernest Main, May 9. 1935." Some of the photographs in-text have been noted as being taken by Armstrong. Illustrated with a frontispiece, thirty photographs across sixteen plates, and two maps. Collated complete. A recent history of Iraq covering a period of approximately fifteen years from British Imperial Communications and Lawrence of Arabia, to the development of the "New Iraq". With chapters on defence and foreign relations, Sunni and Shiah, finance, justice, agriculture, transport, trade, and more. With information on the land and the people, along with their ancient histories. Written by Ernest Main, a British travel writer. With a foreword by George Ambrose Lloyd, Lord Lloyd of Dolobran, a British Conservative politician and colonial administrator.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light wear and rubbing to the extremities. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. The odd small mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the first and last few pages. Light age toning to the endpapers with the author's ink inscription to the front endpaper.
