Containing two 'Lamentable Complaints' pamphlets, which were originally printed in 1641 and comment on the perilous position of brewers, butchers, tapsters, and cooks. They concern the new Puritan laws which attempted to enforce commercial and recreational restrictions on Sundays (i.e. 'blue laws').

The other work included here is 'The Whole Tryal and Indictment of Sir John Barley-Corn, Knight', a satirical allegorical work printed in 1709 that uses the structure of a legal proceeding to critique the negative impacts of excessive drinking on individuals and society.
