The first edition of this scarce volume.
With the publisher's very scarce clipped dust wrapper.
Within this volume the author reminiscences of his time spent living in East London, specifically the district of Poplar. He describes his conversations with his landlady and of life on the riverside, in the streets and markets, hospital and chapel.
Decorated by Douglas Low or "Douglow" with numerous in-text and full-page illustrations.
From Fleet Street journalist Horace Thorogood. With an epilogue by British politician and social reformer George Lansbury.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. With the original clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with minor shelf wear and a couple damp spots to the front board. Dust wrapper is sunned to the spine, with light loss to the head and tail. Tape reinforced to these areas. With handling marks to the wrap and a ring tide mark to the front cover. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with a few scattered spots.
