The scarce first edition of Victor Bayley's account of the construction of the Khyber Pass Railway, a remarkable project undertaken on the turbulent North-West Frontier of British India.

Bayley, an engineer closely involved with the work, describes the challenges of surveying and building through the difficult terrain, including tunnels, bridges, and steep gradients, as well as the logistical and political obstacles posed by the region.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifteen plates. Collated, complete.
 
Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed, and with leaves trimmed, not affecting text. Retaining half title, and advertisements to the rear.

Condition

Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with light handling marks to boards. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages trimmed to perimeters, not affecting text. Pages bright, with instances of spotting throughout, most apparent to title page.
