First edition. With the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and forty-six drawings in black and white by the author. A volume revisiting the history of old cavalry stations around the United Kingdom. Retracing the history of cavalry stations, with descriptions, in East Anglia, Wessex, the South and Kent, London and home counties, and roads to the North, as well as Edinburgh and Newcastle. Written by Bernard Granville Baker, a British soldier, author, and painter specialising in military subjects. With a foreword by Field Marshal the Viscount Allenby, Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby, a prominent British military figure and administrator, known for his leadership during the First World War.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and chipping to the extremities resulting in light loss. Sunning to the spine and panel edges with the odd small closed tear. Light loss to the front fly leaf with creases to the extremities. A 2" closed tear to the front panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Scattered spotting to the first and last few pages.
