In the original cloth binding. 

A charming West Indies travelogue from English historian, novelist and travel writer, Owen Rutter. Here, he discusses his excursions to Barbados, Trinidad, Tobago, Jamaica and more, with observations on the food, people, culture, architecture. He also draws on literary associations, such as the similarities between Tobago and Robinson Crusoe's island. Other societal topics discussed include the discontented young women of the West Indies, farmers, the abolition of slavery, prohibition in Puerto Rico and the effects of the sugar tariff.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, twenty-three plates and five in-text maps and diagrams. Collated, complete. 

With twelve pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, rear joint of the back strip is split, with a smaller horizontal split near the tail. Marks to the boards and fading to the rear board. Damp stain and residue to the front board. Rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and the occasional spots.
