First edition, third impression. With the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, twenty-two plates, six of which are in colour, and three maps, one of which is folding. Collated complete. A moving biographical study of Edward Adrian Wilson, an English polar explorer, ornithologist, natural historian, physician and artist. Providing detailed accounts of his epic South Polar exploration and the tragic struggle to return from the pole. Written by George Seaver, an English vicar and writer. With an introduction from Apsley George Benet Cherry-Garrard, an English explorer of Antarctica who was appointed assistant zoologist for Wilson's expedition.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is smart with light wear and the odd small closed tear to the panel edges. A 1" closed tear to the front panel with sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting and minor age toning to the first and last few pages.
