The first edition of this ninth book in Hugh Lofting's Doctor Dolittle series, following the adventures of a Victorian English physician who has the ability to speak with animals, and favours animal patients over humans. The story originally appeared in the letters sent by the author from the trenches in the First World War to his children at home.
Complete with the vanishingly scarce, clipped dust wrapper.
Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and full page line drawings in black and white by the author.
Condition
In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart, spine and boards only lightly bumped to the spine and extremities, few faint minor spots to the spine. The dust wrapper sound, price clipped with some sunning to the spine, lightly soiled to the wraps, chipped with few minor closed tears, some loss to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Light faint spot to the odd leaf, otherwise pages generally bright and clean. With a coloured frontispiece and other full page black and white line drawings by the author.
