'Shrubs and Trees for the Garden' was written by Arthur Osborn, an English gardener, botanist and arborist who was in charge of the Kew Arboretum during the 1930s. Includes chapters on arrangement, winter-flowering, fruiting trees and shrubs, hedges, pruning, street planting, tree surgery, prevention of diseases and pests and much more. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, seven colour plates, sixty-four monochrome plates and numerous in-text figures. Collated, complete.
'Rock Gardens' was written by A. Edwards, a photographer and botanist who was formerly in charge of the Kew rock gardens. With chapters on construction, suitable stones, ornamental grasses, propagation of rock plants, the paved garden, water gardens and much more. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, seven colour plates, sixteen double-sided monochrome plates, and numerous in-text figures. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Faint marks to the front board of 'Rock Gardens and a contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spotting throughout 'Shrubs' and an ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Ink inscribed reference notes to the front free endpaper of 'Rock Gardens'.
