What Our Customers Say...
Description
An Important Work, First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
In the publisher's original cloth binding.
This volume is a first edition, and the nineteenth printing of this work.
This work is a groundbreaking exposé, and was a bestselling work of journalism that shocked American readers by revealing how poorly regulated, insidious, and dangerous everyday consumer goods were in the early 20th century. Kallet and Schlink state the book is "written in the interest of the consumer, who does not yet realize that he is being used as a guinea pig..."
Criticizing the FDA and profit-driven industry practices, the book dissected harmful additives, toxic products, and deceptive marketing, this work helped spark reforms leading to the 1938 Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, igniting lasting public skepticism toward corporate claims.
