First edition. Scarce work. Illustrated with over two hundred images. A detailed and comprehensive agricultural study of the Shorthorn breed of cattle, which originated in the North East of England in the late eighteenth century, and its breeding across Canada. With chapters on the arrival of these cattle to Canada, Maple Shade Shorthorns, Willowbank Shorthorns, and dual purpose Shorthorn herds. Includes references to important breeders and farms, including: Simon Beattie, M. H. Cochrane, Bow Park Farm, James Gardhouse, and the Russells, as well as Saskatchewan and Ontario breeders of the past and present. Written by Duncan McLean Marshall, a Canadian journalist, publisher, rancher and politician in the provinces of Ontario and Alberta. He served as Alberta's second Minister of Agriculture and later Ontario's Minister of Agriculture.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the cloth. Minor fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with a contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper.
