A detailed history of Jainism, an ancient Indian religion emphasizing non-violence and spiritual liberation through self-discipline and minimizing harm to all living beings, including plants and animals. With chapters on Mahavira and his times, Jainism in the royal families, Jainism in Kalinga-Desa, Mathura inscriptions, the Gupta period, and Jainism in the literature and art of the North. Written by Chimanlal J. Shah, an Indian author and scholar. With a foreword by Enric Heras de Sicars, known by his anglicised name Henry Heras, a Spanish-Indian Jesuit priest, archeologist and historian based in India.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and light age toning to the endpapers. The odd pencil mark or annotation throughout the text.
