What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

Two issues of University of Leeds' rag magazine, 'The Tyke', for the years 1932 and 1933.

In the original colourful wraps, very bright for their age.

A very scarce rag.

'The Tyke' was a cheap magazine sold by students to members of the public during Rag Week, which took place annually around Shrove Tuesday.

Leeds' rags contains a variety of anonymously-contributed contents, including adverts, stories, and cartoons. Often the contents were offensive or irreverent to authorities, with rags and rag weeks of various universities' becoming controversial in the first half of the twentieth century due to their perceived antisocial behaviour.

Condition

In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, smart. Very light discolouration to the spines, partly due to the staples rusting. Only a few light marks to the wraps, otherwise very bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
