First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, seven plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. A charming description of a visit to the United States, written to express gratitude for the delightful hospitality with which the author was received. The work takes us from New York, to South and North Carolina, Virginia, Providence, Boston, and Philadelphia, with details of the varied and exciting entertainments that the United States have to offer. Written by Edith Anna Œnone Somerville, an Irish novelist who often collaborated with her cousin Violet Florence Martin, who wrote under the pseudonym Martin Ross.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. A 1" closed tear to the front free endpaper with a book club label to the rear pastedown.
