Folding Maps, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Rebound

The third edition, revised and enlarged. First published in 1919.

Rebound in quarter cloth with marbled boards. Endpapers renewed and blanks discarded.

The work is a detailed historical and cultural guide to Peking (modern day Beijing), written by Juliet Bredon, a writer who lived in China for many years, combining architectural and historical description with personal observation. It surveys the city’s major sites, including temples, palaces, gardens, and walls, while interweaving accounts of their cultural significance, legends, and ceremonial functions.
