This work is Gordon Craig’s reflection on the art of the bookplate, offering his witty commentary and reproductions with a catalog of his own ex-libris designs arranged by E. Carrick, created between 1895 and 1912.
Illustrated 26 tipped in plates, may of which are in colour. Collated, complete.
Edward Gordon Craig (1872–1966), was an influential modernist theatre practitioner, actor, director, designer, and theorist, the son of actress, Dame Ellen Terry.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart. Fading to spine. Slight rubbing, bumping and fading to extremities. Bookplate of "Richard Luckett" to front paste down. The odd slight spot with very slight offsetting to endpapers. Dust wrapper, generally smart. Clipped. Slight loss to upper extremities at front joint. Slight rubbing to wraps. Slight soiling to wraps. Age toning to spine and upper perimeter of rear wrap. The odd small chip, closed tear and crease to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
