A charming collection of six tales set around Japanese lives, with a focus on the "love of ordinary people" as described by the author in the preface. Including stories titled 'The Bridge of Love', 'New Wine in Old Bottles', 'Fox in the Midst', 'Yuriko's Marriage', 'Rainy Season' and 'Mushiro'.
Written by Lilian Rawlings. In her preface, she speaks on the steady changes seen in the rise of 'moga' or the modern girl in Japan, and the effects of romantic ideas from other countries on Japanese culture.
Illustrated with occasional vignettes.
Condition
In the publisher's blue limp calf. Externally, with slight warping to the boards, otherwise smart, with minor rubbing to the spine's gilt text. Ex libris bookplate of one R. A. Scoales, No. 1455, dated 1972. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the bookplate of one Cliff Parfit to the front endpaper, with an inscription below. With the odd spot or handling mark to the pages.
