1931 Fertility and Sterility in Marriage
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Signed, Uncommon, With Dustwrapper
The first edition.
Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped and vanishingly scarce dust wrapper.
Inscribed by the author to Irish surgeon and author, James Johnston Abraham, who assisted van de Velde with his work, providing an introduction to his previous work 'Ideal Marriage: It's Physiology and Technique' (1928). The author wrote 'To J. Johnston Abraham, with sincere appreciation from the Author, Th. H. Van de Velde', dated London, 1931.
This intriguing work is the third part of the author's "Ideal Marriage" series, with this volume focusing on the somewhat controversial subject of contraception, in particular, within a marriage. Van de Velde collates information from all around the world, examining popular methods of contraception of the time, including sterilisation.
The first work to present a scientific approach which factors in both fertility and sterility.
Illustrated with twenty plates. Collated, complete.
Written by Dutch physician and gynaecologist, Theodoor Hendrik van de Velde, who served as director of the Gynaecological Institute in Haarlem.
Translated by F. W. Stella Browne.
With the bookplate of J. Johnston Abraham and a pamphlet containing Testimonials of J. Johnston Abraham, loosely inserted. These testimonials are from Abraham's former colleagues, in support for his application to be Surgical Registrar at West London Hospital, dated 1910.
