First thus, the first illustrated edition with artwork from Henriette Willebeek Le Mair. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and eleven colour plates. Collated complete. A collection of sixty-four poems for children considered to be one of the most influential works for children of the nineteenth century. The poems, which have been widely imitated, are written from the point of view of a child. Containing titles such as: "Bed in Summer", "A Thought", and "At the Sea-side". Written by Robert Louis Stevenson, a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer best known for works such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Kidnapped. Illustrated by Henriette Willebeek LeMair, a Dutch illustrator of children's books.
Condition
In the original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with light chipping to the board tips. The odd mark to the boards, including pencil and ink. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. The odd colour pencil mark with contemporary pencil notes to the rear endpaper. Light loss to the plate opposite page 20 from a tear.
