First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eight plates. Collated complete. Being "a series of speculative predictions dealing with the possible development of the world during the next hundred years.” With titles including: The World in 2030, War in 2030, Industry in 2030, Everyday Life in 2030, The Amenities of 2030, The Air in 2030, The World Polity in 2030, Woman in 2030, and The Future in 2030. Written by Frederick Edwin Smith, 1st Earl of Birkenhead, a British Conservative politician and barrister noted for his staunch opposition to Irish nationalism. Illustrated by Edward McKnight Kauffer, an American artist and graphic designer who lived for much of his life in the United Kingdom.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting and minor age toning to the endpapers. With the previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
