Pepys' diaries was kept from 1660 to 1669, and it is now considered to be one of the most important primary sources on the English Restoration.
Pepys was the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both Kings Charles II and James II.
The diaries are noted for its eyewitness accounts of great events, including the Great Plague of London, the Great Fire of London, and the Second Dutch War.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart, with a few light marks to the cloth. Small chip to the tail of the front board. Spots to the fore edge. Dust wrapper is a little edge worn, with small chips and closed tear, a larger chip to the tail of the front wrap. Dust wrapper is age-toned with a few spots and handling marks, and a small tidemark to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
