This volume is a landmark opera reference, first published posthumously in December of 1919, offering opera synopses, performer history, and musical notation of key airs.
With 65 monochrome photographic plate illustrations of singers in costume and scenes from opera performances, including a frontispiece of Marie Jeritza as Tosca, and a monochrome photographic portrait of the author Gustave Kobbe, facing the foreword. Collated, complete.
Condition
Bound in a half crushed morocco binding with cloth boards. Externally, very smart. Slight fading to extremities. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, more so to joints, resulting in slight loss to morocco. Spine slightly faded. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean with the odd ink inscription from previous owner to the title page, pages 4, 5, 31, and verso of final page, and on or two spots to fore edges.
