The first edition of this work, one of only 1,000 copies produced. Bloomfield & Mendelson A2. 

Published when Auden was only twenty-three.

The poems in the book are largely lyrical meditations on unconsummated love. Among the poems in this collection poems are "It was Easter as I walked", "Doom is dark", "Sir, no man's enemy", and "This lunar beauty".

From the library of English lecturer at Exeter University, Harold Andrew Mason. With his ink inscription to the head of the front wrap.

This collection is dedicated to Christopher Isherwood.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper wraps, with with price unclipped dust wrapper adhered to the back strip, as issued. Inscription to front wrap. Wraps age toned to perimeters. Losses of paper to back strip head and tail. Loss of paper to fold over front joint, and tail of fold over rear joint. Flyleaves tenderly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
