John Rothenstein was a British arts administrator and art historian, and the son of painter William Rothenstein. His directorship at the Tate Gallery - the longest date - was one of the most successful.
'Morning Sorrow' marks his first and only novel, which centres around Diana, the eldest of three sisters, who is employed to serve as a companion to the daughter of a family acquaintance, Lady Chalgrove.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, with a split to the head of the back strip. Damp streak to the front board and a couple minor spots to the rear board. Rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the half title and last page. Occasional spots, heaviest to the first and last few leaves. Author's signed dedication to the front free endpaper.
