First illustrated edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and seven plates. Collated complete. A play in three acts, being an expose of antisemitism in English upper-class society in the 1920s. Set in Meldon Court, a country house near Newmarket, the home of Sir Charles and Lady Adela Winsor. One of their guests, Ferdinand de Levis, has had £1000 stolen from his room, and he charges another guest, Captain Ronald Dancy, with the theft not knowing he is a war hero. Written by John Galsworthy, an English novelist and playwright. He is best known for his trilogy of novels The Forsyte Saga. Illustrated by Salomon van Abbe, also known as Jack van Abbe, a Dutch artist, etcher, and illustrator of books and magazines.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor wear to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Original price-clipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and chipping to the extremities resulting in loss to the head of the spine and the odd small closed tear. The odd crease to the panel edges with a 4" closed tear to the tail of the spine. Sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. The bookseller's label to the front pastedown.
