Illustrated with two colour plates, and one monochrome plate. Collated, complete.
A pencil inscription to the front free endpaper marks this as an association copy, explaining 'Angeline dear, I know the author of this book, he is a magistrate in [...] and a very keen [...], yours, Olivia.
Olivia supplies a further gift inscription to the front pastedown, wishing Angeline a happy Christmas and New Year.
Author Capt. L. H. Niblett discusses early twentieth century India, describing festivities including Diwali, the ideal Hindu wife, the Ganges, witch-doctors, fortune-tellers, weddings, and the jungle.
Niblett was an adventurer known for roller-skating down 6,000 feet of the Kumaon Himalayas in heavy rain and mist.

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Back strip age toned, with bumping to back strip head and tail. Tide mark to head of rear board. Joint heads and tails starting, with boards firmly held. Ink inscription to front pastedown, pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
