First edition. Limited to six hundred and fifty copies signed by the author, of which this is number three hundred and forty-eight. Signed by the author to the limitation page. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous in-text images. This work of literary criticism explores the use of desert islands in many works of fiction such as 'Robinson Crusoe', 'The Man in the Moon', and 'Gulliver's Travels'. With the intention of discussing their use as a literary trope and plot device. Written by Walter John de la Mare, an English poet, short story writer and novelist. Illustrated by Reginald John "Rex" Whistler, a British artist, who painted murals and society portraits, and designed theatrical costumes.

Condition

In the original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear and light fading to the extremities. Further fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning to the extremities and endpapers. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
