What Our Customers Say...
Description
Original Binding, With Letter
Bound in its original red cloth binding, this 1930 title compiles and comments on the personal correspondence between 17th Century philosopher Anne Conway, an infamous sufferer of severe, untreatable headaches, and theologian and philosopher Henry More.
Striking personal details to this particular copy arise in the form of letters between California and London, attached to the rear endpapers.
Included is a 1934 letter from Dr Gilbert Owen M. D. to Sir D'Arcy Power - surgeon, medical historian, and founding member of The Samuel Pepys Club.
Owen requests access to resources to facilitate further investigation of the fascinating case of Anne Conway's medical mystery, both for personal interest, and for Nicolson herself.
The response, in the form of a 1937 paper by neurologist Macdonald Critchley, is also included, providing an insightful dialogue to complement this comprehensive title.
This copy also features a bookplate marking its former place in the impressive personal library of Richard Luckett, former Cambridge lecturer, and Pepys librarian.
Includes a frontispiece and 15 further monochrome plates.
Collated, complete.
