    This set offers thirteen first edition titles from the 'Biggles' series of adventure books for young readers, written by English novelist and First World War pilot, W. E. Johns.

    In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with dust wrappers. 

    A prolific series, the stories centre around title character and hero, James Charles Bigglesworth, better known by his nickname "Biggles". 

    Majority of these volumes are illustrated by 'Stead' or Alfred Sindall. 

    The first editions, first impressions present here are:

    Biggles 'Fails to Return' (1943), with colour frontispiece. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles Hunts Big Game (1948), with frontispiece and ten plates. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles Works it Out (1951), with eight colour plates. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles Goes to School (1951), with eight colour plates. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles Follows On (1952), with eight monochrome plates. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles in the Gobi (1953), with six colour plates. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles and the Black Raider (1953), in unclipped dust wrapper.

    Biggles In the Blue (1953), with six colour plates. Unclipped dust wrapper.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with two clipped and eleven unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, excellent. Front hinge of Works it Out strained but firmly held. Inscription to front free endpaper of Ends Meet, Blue, Big Game. Chipping and losses to dust wrapper back strip heads and tails, with small closed tears and chips to wrap perimeters. Tape repairs to dust wrapper back strip reverse of Pirate, and to head and tail of back strip reverse of Works, Follows, End, Blue, Fails. Age toned tape running length of perimeters of Ends Meet wrapper. Sunning to School back strip. Significant edgewear to perimeters of Syndicate. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with the odd spot, most concentrated to earliest volumes. Small loss to fore edge of Syndicate title page.
