Commissioned by the League of Nations, Durrant's report formed part of a wider investigation into allegations that the Liberian government was complicit in practices akin to slavery, particularly regarding the transportation of labourers to the Spanish colony of Fernando Po.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and twelve plates, and with a folding map to the rear. Collated, complete.
Former owner's inscription to title page head, with the stamp of the Royal Colonial Institute to the front free endpaper.
His report contributed significantly to international pressure that led to political reform in Liberia, including the resignation of President Charles D. B. King in 1930.
Condition
In the publisher's original paper wraps. Wraps and back strip lightly age toned, with ink inscriptions to wrap head. Small losses of paper to back strip head and tail. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Stamps to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
