First published in 1895, this edition of The Golden Age was the first with illustrations by E. H. Shepard. This is a second impression of the illustrated edition, printed the same month as the first impression. Illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty-eight in-text images. The book is a collection of reminiscences of childhood intended for nostalgic adults and suitable for children readers. The contents includes 'A Holiday', 'The Burglars', and 'The Olympians' - referring to adults from a child's eye, using Ancient Greek metaphors and imagery that was typical of the time. Written by Kenneth Grahame, a British writer best remembered for the classic of children's literature The Wind in the Willows. Illustrated by Ernest Howard Shepard, an English artist and book illustrator known especially for illustrations of the anthropomorphic animal and soft toy characters in The Wind in the Willows and Winnie-the-Pooh. Condition
Bound in quarter calf with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Bound by Selfridge.
