Early Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
In original publisher's cloth binding. First published in 1895, this edition of The Golden Age was the first with illustrations by E. H. Shepard.
The book is a collection of reminiscences of childhood intended for nostalgic adults and suitable for children readers. The contents includes 'A Holiday', 'The Burglars', and 'The Olympians' - referring to adults from a child's eye, using Ancient Greek metaphors and imagery that was typical of the time.
Kenneth Grahame was a British writer, most famous for The Wind in the Willows, a children's literature classic. E. H. Shepard is a well known book illustrator who also illustrated The Wind in the Willows, and other famous children's literature such as Winnie The Pooh.
Gold lettering to the front board and spine.
No dust wrapper present.
Includes adverts to the rear endpapers.
Condition
In original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. The boards and spine are aged. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The spine is slightly discoloured and the lettering of the publisher's mark is slightly faded. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with only the occasional spot.
