First UK edition. A touching autobiographical novel, recounting the author's temporary imprisonment in France during World War One. Cummings was an ambulance driver during the war, and was arrested by French authorities in August 1917, resulting in four months of imprisonment at an internment camp. Written by Edward Estlin Cummings, commonly known as E. E. Cummings, an American poet, painter, essayist, author, and playwright. With an introduction from Captain Robert von Ranke Graves, an English poet, soldier, historical novelist and critic.

Condition

In the original burgundy and black cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. With minor age toning and the odd small spot to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
